Farmcochem took 3rd position in the 2008 Enterprise 50 Award. The Enterprise 50 is a prestigious annual award jointly organised by Deloitte Consulting (M) Sdn Bhd and the Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC) to promote and showcase homegrown companies that are top industry players in Malaysia . The winners were evaluated based on financial performance indicators such as turnover and profit growth, margin growth, return on asset and other non-financial indicators i.e. business growth model, innovations, management ideals and governance, human capital development and quality management.

The award was presented by Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to Mr Ricky Chey, Executive Director of Farmcochem who accepted the award on the company’s behalf. Mr Ricky Chey expressed his delight for being recognized as the top 50 privately-held companies in Malaysia . “I want to dedicate this award to all staff and management of Farmcochem, without the hard work, dedication and the motivation of all our staff to grow together with the company, this award would not be possible. I thank you all sincerely for that.

After a successful sponsorship of the FCI Summit 2007 in Toronto, Farmcochem will once again be sponsoring the 2008 FCI Trade Summit to be held on the 17-20 August 2008 at the Costa Rica Marriott in San Jose, Costa Rica. The Company’s CEO Mr Chey That Woon and ED Mr Ricky Chey will be attending this year’s event and both are looking forward to meeting with old friends and prospective customers.

According to Ricky Chey “The Latin American market is relatively new to us, so this will be a good opportunity for our company to explore this market. We believe our strength in the Glyphosate business will give us an added advantage to penetrate into this market”. Farmcochem has commenced their production of Glyphosate Technical in June 2008 and expect to be running in full capacity of 5000MT by the end of 2008.

A friendly match was organized between Farmcochem’s basketball team against Surabaya Knight. Surabaya Knights is a professional basketball team from Indonesia. The match was held in the MABA stadium on the 22-June 2008. Farmcochem lost with a score line of 61-50. Team captain Toh Chin Thiam expressed his disappointment over the loss. “It was a close match but it was obvious that our team needs to work on our fitness. This is something that we must work on before the start of the next NBL season”.

Farmcochem is the official owner and sponsor of its basketball team in National Basketball League. The team consists of 10 semi-professional players which compete in the league. The competing season will start around 15 September 2008.

Farmcochem’s CEO, Mr Chey That Woon, has been appointed as the Vice-President of the Perak Basketball Association (PBA). The Perak Basketball Association, a part of the Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA) was formed with the aim of promoting the game of basketball in the Perak state. PBA also plays an important role in coordinating all affairs in relation to basketball in the state of Perak.
